QUICKTIME HELP ...

I have yet been able to re-install quicktime. Could someone please tell me the location quicktime looks at installed version when the installer package starts. I have removed every single instance of quicktime, apple from the registry and am still getting the error that " A NEWER VERSION OF QUICKTIME IS ALREADY INSTALLED" This is so frustrating. PLEASE give me some advise other than throwing the laptop in the dumpster and starting with a new one.
